The Gender & Legal Expert House (GELEH), in collaboration with the Egyptian Center for Women's Rights (ECWR), organized a training course titled "Promoting Human Rights and Women's Rights in Civil Society Work," with the participation of representatives from 24 civil society organizations
The two-day training addressed a variety of key topics, including: the international legal framework for human and women’s rights; the national legislative environment related to women's rights; understanding gender-based violence in terms of its concept, causes, and impacts; as well as the challenges facing women's civil and political rights in Egypt, in addition to those related to their economic, social, and cultural rights. The workshop also emphasized the vital role civil society organizations play in promoting and protecting women's rights.
The training resulted in a number of promising opportunities to support and enhance the role of civil society organizations. These included: leveraging digital transformation and expanding the use of social media to reach women in remote and marginalized areas; activating the role of young volunteers in spreading a culture of human rights and gender equality, particularly among their peers; and building broad-based community partnerships with local institutions to raise awareness and advocate for women's issues on a wider scale.
