GELEH Concludes a Training Series for Lawyers
Under the Title: “The Mission of the Legal Profession and Providing Legal Support”
The Gender & Legal Expert House (GELEH) has wrapped up a series of training courses for both male and female lawyers. The initiative aimed to enhance the capabilities of young lawyers in advocacy, defense work, and in providing direct and online legal support. Approximately 1,000 lawyers attended these training sessions from various governorates including Cairo, Giza, Qalyubia, Qena, Assiut, Beheira, Alexandria, and Minya.
The courses covered a wide range of topics, including:
• How to read and analyze case files
• Introduction to the “Mohamek” (Your Lawyer) platform for providing online legal consultations and support
• The importance of active listening to complainants
• Violence, harassment, and cybercrimes
• An overview of key laws that ensure protection for women
The training sessions relied on brainstorming, interactive discussions, and practical workshops using real legal inquiries received through the “Mohamek” platform. The goal was to arrive at the most effective legal solutions for these real-life cases.
The training featured a group of legal experts and concluded with several important recommendations, including:
• The importance of listening attentively to the complainant.
• Avoiding judgment or making assumptions about the complainant.
• Not pressuring the complainant into taking any legal steps, even if they are in their best interest.
• Explaining all available legal and non-legal options, along with the consequences of each choice.
• Referring cases, when necessary, to relevant services such as women’s shelters under the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
