Idea behind

GELEH is founded to fill in the know-how gap that hinders most of the policy makers in the MENA region from taking into account the gender implications of their decisions. with this regards, GELEH will be the window through which policy makers in the region can examine the experiences of other countries in adopting gender-main-streaming approach on different levels.

-Simplifying legal concepts and spreading the culture of law

GELEH works on

Identifying gaps in laws, reviewing implementation mechanisms, international and local strategies, and their compatibility with the justice system and human rights

Providing legal and technical advice to policy makers and decision makers at the official level, international institutions, and business owners

Participation in relevant international and regional conferences to contribute to policymaking globally, regionally, and locally

Analysing laws and making proposals for amendment to the concerned authorities and legislators.

Vision

Gender is critical in all spheres yet research on gender is underrated in Egypt. Thus, GELEH seeks sheding the light on the importance of gender research and its positive impact on policy making, to eventually achieve gender-integrated public policies promoting for social change and gender equality.

Mission

GELEH bridges the gap between research and policy through furthering research based action to

• Produce and disseminate knowledge,
• provide technical assistance to both policy makers and civil society’s actors, and finally
• Launch a strong network that can lobby for concrete gender-integrated policies.

Main area 

Women’s empowerment and gender mainstreaming.

Main activities

• Review and evaluate progress of national strategy for population 2014-2018 , women empowerment pillar – Plan for national strategy for population 2019-2020 – NCP
•  Forming action plan of national  strategy to counter VAW in coordination with Egyptian  Government and Civil society organizations , lead by National Council for Women – NCW
• Ideas creator , write and produce  30 minutes program discus social and gender issues through interactive methods with audiences like , story tell , brainstorm and analyses , present people ideas from filed reports , present success stories ,the program reached 10 million in Egypt and MENA .
• Writing sexual harassment strategies and launching anti-harassment units in  universities in Egypt , we cooperate with NCW to generalize the experience, now 12 governmental universities and 5 privets lunched and moderate unites to eliminate SH and VAW , Geleh support them technically in cooperation with UNFPA
• supporting economic empowerment of women through Conducting studies and training in cooperation with  W.B and  MSMEDA
• Conducting a study for women’s economic empowerment in legislation for Egyptian Center for Economic Studies emphases on supporting gender roles of women workers this led to president announcement that will allocate 250 M for supporting nursery for children of women workers
• Reform inheritance law by adding crime of preventing delivery of inheritance to women or prevent documents prove women’s rights in inheritance, this lead big number of women demand their rights in lands and money through criminal court
